Today’s edition of Bring It On! has its host and executive producer, Clarence Boone, spending the hour with his co-anchor and Dark Past, Bright Future segment producer Elizabeth Mitchell. For nearly 45 years, Liz has been documenting African American history and correcting a revisionist version. She describes her job as bringing to light, “All those stories that tell us who we are—stories of exploration, freedom, slavery, and, of course, violence.” According to her, she is transmitting a type of African-American history because “We hold on to those one-sided stories and pass them on from one generation to the next.”
Liz Mitchell wears many hats. Along with being an historian, she is a thespian and playwright with Resilience Productions. She collects black historical artifacts, primarily Jim Crow related, and her search for these things complements her extensive journeys around the world. Finally, amongst her numerous civic awards and recognitions, Liz was recently recognized by the Monroe County Branch of the NAACP as the 2024 President’s Award recipient. Given this, Liz welcome to Bring It On!
