Timing is everything.

You want to bake a cake… here are the ingredients. 

2 sticks of unsalted butter

3 cups of all purpose flour

1 table spoon of baking powder

1/2 tsp. of salt

1 1/4 cup of sugar

4 large eggs

1 table spoon of vanilla extract

1 1/4 cup of whole milk or heavy cream

1/2 cup of water

bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees

This is for a basic vanilla cake… no frills, so surprises. 

But you come over… and even if I am the best baker in town or the country… you think I can make it immediately because you are in a hurry.

So I say ok, open up. And I start putting ingredients in your mouth… here salt and sugar and flour.. chew this up… now swallow it so I can put some eggs in your mouth.

It doesn’t work that way… not to mention you have to mix it all together and then put it in a hot oven - and you still have to wait… and even after taking it out of the oven the directions say to wait 10 more minutes….

So you want a great life… you seem to have some pretty good ingredients, sugar, milk, cream…

but you also have some boring ingredients in your life… flour, vanilla, water…

And then you have some disgusting ingredients in your life, eggs, salt, raw butter, 

How can your life with so many variables end up being good, or even great.

Well… let God do what he wants with your ingredients, let him mix them, let him take the mediocre, the bland, the good the bad etc… and give him time.

You know the greatest mindset in the bible to me was that of Joseph. he was given an incredible dream that some day he would rule the then known world. Here he is just a kid telling his brothers this dream and they are so put off by him and so worn down by his dreams (almost arrogance) they pretend to kill him and sell him off as a slave. He literally goes through hell and back. He has every ingredient in his life, he is sold into slavery, he is one who has found favor, he is accused of rape, he is locked up in jail, he is forgotten about by friends, he serves at the Kings court, he is given power like no other man, he is missing his family… he finally reunites with his family… at the end of this saga, the recipe for a beautiful rich life… with all it’s ups and downs and all its turns… he says the most amazing thing. What you meant for bad, God meant for good. 

Joseph is admitting that he knew it would take time, that lots of bad things happened but he still trusted God through all of it. 

What if he had given up half way through… what if he said well this is as good as its going to get so I will shag Potiphers wife and get what I can… god has given up on me, so why should I care! 

I know men who would do that… unfortunately I know men who have done that.

Where are you right now in life… are you at the sugar stage? The egg stage? The salt stage? The flour stage? Maybe you have made it to the oven… hang on, What has happened in your life- if you still serve God will be used for good.
