“Bring Them Down” opens with a flashback depicting a high-speed car crash on a twisting road in the forests of West Ireland. The accident leaves the driver unharmed but severely injures his girlfriend and takes the life of his mother. The driver, now in his thirties, is Michael O’Shea, portrayed by Christopher Abbott, who is adept at embodying reserved characters who observe keenly yet speak sparingly. Following the tragedy, Michael’s girlfriend, Caroline (Nora-Jane Noon), marries another sheep farmer named Gary, whose family resides nearby. Meanwhile, Michael works on the family sheep farm alongside his father, Ray. He is a proud and bitter man, quick to anger, and often resorts to aggression as his primary means of communication, while Michael remains submissive to his father's authority.
