Bringing Good News

Listen Later

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’’ - Romans 10:14-15

As the leader of a global mission for many years, I would travel to places where the good news of Jesus was unknown. I would often think to myself how lucky I was to have grown up in a believing family so that I had the privilege of meeting Jesus at an early age. Think about your own spiritual life. Who introduced you to Jesus? Whoever it was gave you the opportunity to experience a life with Jesus and eternal life beyond. How different your life would be if someone had not introduced you to the most important relationship you will ever have. Each of us will be eternally grateful to the one who introduced us to Jesus.

But how will people know of Jesus if there is no one to tell them? And how can people go to unreached places if they are not sent, asks Paul. And then he says, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” You see, it is very easy for us to become comfortable that we are in God’s family and not pay attention to those who don’t yet know Him. Our world is full of places where Jesus is not known or the good news understood.

This is why one of the early decisions of the New Testament church was to send Paul and Barnabas as missionaries to share the gospel and plant churches. It is no different today. Until Jesus returns, we must be carrying out the great commission. He commanded us to, “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

My parents answered that call and served as missionaries in Hong Kong. The hospital my father founded with another partner is well known, even today after 50 years, as a place that is compassionate and provides first class care. And the Good News is regularly shared with patients. In this day of globalization, it is possible to reach more people more quickly than ever before.

Every Christian and every church should be involved in passing the good news on. Jesus told His disciples that they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes to you and, “you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

If you have not had the privilege of supporting those who share the good news both in your city, region and internationally, I would encourage you to do so. Imagine meeting people in heaven one day who came to Jesus because you made it possible for them to hear because you supported someone who went. We had the privilege of being introduced to Jesus. Let's pass that on to those who don’t know Him.

PRAYER

Father, I thank You today for those who introduced me to You. Because of You, I am a child of the King. Would You raise up a new generation of people who will minister to those in my city or the world? I would count it a privilege to support them and pass on what was given to me. Amen.
