Publisher's Summary:
Like many pop cultural icons (and rock icons in particular), Freddie Mercury is one of the most recognizable figures of the 20th century and yet one of the more enigmatic personalities as well. To be sure, anyone who was alive during the reign of Queen is well aware of who Mercury was and the sound of his music (even those who despise rock music are familiar with the blasting, deliriously over-the-top rhythms of songs like "We Are the Champions"). At the same time, a noteworthy discrepancy existed between the flamboyant personality that Freddie maintained during his performances and public appearances and the rather guarded manner in which he kept his private life more or less shielded from public view. By way of example, while it is now common knowledge that Mercury was homosexual (or at least bisexual), this was a fact that he avoided disclosing to the general public, and even his band mates were kept unaware until 1975. In some cases, biographical details are still not entirely clear, although the past 15 years have done much to clear up certain aspects of his life that Mercury kept close to the vest.
Members Reviews:
Just the facts ma'am --just the facts!!
If you need the basic "facts" about Freddie Mercury and want to cut through the bull of this person and that person this
should be the starting book for you!
After you read this book then go out and get other books with lots of pictures if you want--i know I did!!
Killer Queen!!!
I've been a queen fan almost from the beginning, back when I was in college.
Sheer Heart Attack was the album that made me a fan.
I think It's sad that an artist's sexual bias could have any bearing on their work.
The one thing I like about this book is that it's neutral regarding the man.
I also learned a lot, mainly the fact that Freddie Mercury was Persian/Iranian.
All of the Charles Rivers books give a lot of facts & are very short.
In short (pun intended) ,I feel these books should be available to students.I will be spreading the word.
My only complaint is the fact they are short.â
Freddy Mercury ! Parsi Boy who became a Rock Legend !
It was interesting to read how this son from a Parsi family from India, brought up in British Africa
and later UK went on to super stardom and a tragic death !! His songs are a living legacy.
Charles River Editors have captured the essence of his life and made it a quick read.
He was a Champion
To overcome diversity and culture, Mercury found a way to make a name for himself. Mercury create music which today is as popular as ever. His music told the world that conformity to genre is not important but what comes from the heart is. Mercury's life was not as big as his life as a performer and privately he suffered many ordeals. Like all of us he learned that public and private life should remain separate.
