Born Israel Beilin to Jewish parents in Czarist Russia in 1888, the family escaped persecution and emigrated to America when he was still a child. His father being a Cantor for the local synagogue, music was always a part of his life, and he passed at the age of 101, with his work forming a large part of the Great American Songbook, including such favorites as “White Christmas”.
