Remembering Neil Simon
Neil Simon was the most popular playwright of our era, and certainly among the greatest artistically. He started as a comedy writer for television as part of the legendary team of writers assembled by Sid Caesar in the 1950’s. From there he moved to writing plays that were immensely successful starting with “Come Blow Your Horn” in 1961 extending to “Lost in Yonkers” in 1991, for which he won a Pulitzer Prize. At one point in the 1960’s he had four plays running on Broadway at the same time. His best-known works are “The Eugene Trilogy”, three semiautobiographical plays and “The Odd Couple”, which has been adapted successfully for movies and television.
