It has been a year since Janir left behind her friends and the man she loves. As princess, she presides over an Argetallam court until an unexpected arrival from a foreign dignitary changes everything.

Janir fights to help her loved ones and even some enmies escape from the crumbling Temple of Tarkoth and the clutches of her father. But no good deed goes unpunished when you anger the Lord Argetallam.

Janir is allowed a meeting with Saoven and Karile where she tries to make them see that there are greater things at stake than her freedom. After, she faces hard questions from Cyrilius.

Janir has survived yet another assassination attempt, but she finds reaching safety to look less like victory and more like being captured again.

Janir and Lucan confront the strange enchanter and quickly learn he knows Janir better than she realized...and he wants her dead.
