Today, we take a look at an often-overlooked passage in the book of Romans—Chapter 16 which contain a long list of greetings that the Apostle Paul sends to his fellow believers in Rome. At first glance, this chapter might seem like a mere formality, a collection of names we can scarcely pronounce, with little relevance to our lives today. But as we dig deeper, we discover that this passage offers us profound insights into the beauty of Christian community, the diversity of God’s people, and the call to love, serve, and rightly regard one another as members of Christ’s body.
Through Paul’s sincere greetings, we catch a glimpse of the early church—a family of believers united not by social status, race, or background, but by their shared hope in Jesus Christ. These greetings remind us that the church is made up of real people with real struggles, strengths, and stories, just like us. They also challenge us to reflect on how we live out our faith within our own church family.
In this chapter Romans we find three important ideas: the call to love one another, the call to see each other as God sees us, and the call to faithfully serve in Christ’s church. We’ll also be reminded of the ultimate hope we have as Christians—that our names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.
So whether you’re new to faith or have walked with Christ for years, this sermon is for you. It’s a powerful reminder of what it means to belong to God’s family and how we are called to live as His people.
