Bruce Devereux is the recreation and volunteer manager at a campus of care for elders. His life changed quickly within a two-week period. First, Bruce's wife Makiko was diagnosed with breast cancer. Then, on a mild Tuesday afternoon in March, Bruce answered his phone at work to hear, "Ken's been shot."

While "the unexamined life is not worth living," is a stronger stance than I take, I do believe the examined life allows a person to get smarter about how to live it. 

So, that's what I do here—reflect on my life or something from life. My hope is that my public reflections prompt your own private reflections and that together we build a life with a little more breathing room, a little more intelligence, a little more forgiveness for ourselves and those we love.
