Notes: Healing the Sick

The purpose of this lesson is to impress upon the believer the call to minister healing to the sick and to give basic instructions on how to minister healing.

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen. Mark 16:15-20, KJV.

HEALING IS JUST AS MUCH A PART OF THE GOSPEL AS SALVATION

Forget not ALL His benefits. Psalm 103.1-5

Healing is part of the redemptive package. Isaiah 53:4-6

(v4, Youngs Literal Translation) Surely our sicknesses he hath borne, And our pains, he hath carried them.

By His stripes we were healed. 1 Peter 2:24

The devil wants you sick. God wants you well. Acts 10:38, 3 John 2

Jesus wants to heal you. Matthew 8:2-3, Mark 1:40-42, Luke 5:12-13

Jesus was anointed to heal and set the captives free. Luke 4:18,19, Acts 10:38

Jesus’ ministry included teaching, preaching and healing the sick. Matthew 9:35

JESUS WANTS YOU TO HEAL THE SICK

You are to continue to do what He began. Acts 1:1

He said to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead. Matthew 10:1-8, Luke 10:8-9

You can do the works of Jesus. John 14:12

As He is, so are we. 1 John 4:17,

You are the body of Christ (Anointed One) 1 Corinthians 12:27

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

GOD USES HEALING TO BRING PEOPLE TO HIMSELF

5,000 men come to the Lord after the healing of the lame man. Acts 4:4

A city comes to God as a result of Philip’s miracle ministry. Acts 8:6-8

Healing closes the mouths of the skeptics. Acts 4:13-14

WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO ARE NOT HEALED?

Remember, you are the delivery person, not the healer, so do what He says and leave the results to Him. There are many reasons why people are not healed, and there are times when we just don’t know. There were times in Jesus’ ministry when He healed them all. (Matthew 12:15, Luke 6:19) But it also says of Jesus’ ministry in His hometown, “And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching.” Mark 6:5, 6, KJV. Regardless, God’s Word is still true! There are times that we can help people overcome their obstacles to receiving healing, but we don’t want to be like Job’s comforters blaming people for their problems. Compassion. David Livingstone has one convert, but that doesn’t mean the message of salvation doesn’t work.

Some reasons people are not healed:

* Doubt and unbelief (Mark 9:23)

* Traditions of man

* Failure to judge yourself, unconfessed sin.
