In this episode of Better Than Not, I had the pleasure and privilege to speak with renowned clarinetist James Campbell. Juno winner and recipient of the Order of Canada, James has been the Artistic Director of Parry Sound’s Festival of The Sound since 1985, which has featured such music luminaries as Yo-Yo Ma, The Dave Brubeck Quartet and Gryphon Trio. James is an active musician performing across Canada and internationally. I was fortunate enough to see James perform with cellist Bryan and pianist Silvie Cheng at the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium in April as part of the Valley Concert Society series. In our conversation, James shared his journey from a small Alberta town to the international stage, emphasizing the importance of talent, passion, and the role of music in life. He also provided insights on musical communication, the value of arts education, and the magic of chamber music. Discover how passion, practice, and community support have shaped his successful musical career. To find out more about James, you can find him at www.festivalofthesound.ca.
