In this episode of the Bucket List Board Gamers Podcast, Drew sits down with Dan Jolin, Editor and Co-Founder of SENET Magazine, to discuss the origins of the publication, the ups and downs of Kickstarter, UK Games Expo, and what to consider when thinking about starting a publication of your own.
First published in Spring 2020, SENET is part board game magazine, part collectible and, in our opinion at least, part functional piece of art!
SENET aims to celebrate and promote board gaming as an art form in its own right. Each quarterly issue explores the craft, creativity and community of the hobby, bringing together fascinating features, previews and reviews, all wrapped up in a high quality publication with a stunning cover.
It's a magazine that really does treat board gaming as something special, and we're delighted to sit down with Dan to find out more about the story behind it!
** Please Note **
This episode was recorded in June of 2025, so some of the information may be a little out of date but the majority is still very relevant and as of this episode going live you CAN still pick up the entire back catalogue of SENET from their website here.
Enjoy!
Oooh boy do we have an episode full of firsts for you here!
For the first time Eddie, of the Bucket List Gamers, joins Jay on a Board Game episode!
They are speaking to speak to Philip Oliver, one half of the Oliver Twins, about his upcoming Adventure game; Journey to the Emerald City.
For the first time we have a guest who is positively pro-AI and we ask for his standpoint on things... and we're SURE it's going to cause debate or disagreement!
Discussions also move on to the use of A.I in video games, and whether the industry HAS to move more in that direction.
Whether you are for, against or indifferent to AI and it's uses, hopefully you can enjoy this episode where, at the very heart of it, Jay got to speak to one of his true video gaming heroes!
In this episode Jay sits down with Brian from Toth Games to talk all things Legends of the Arena!
They get into what makes this fast-paced arena combat game tick, the Legends themselves, and the decisions that make every battle unpredictable.
They also look back at Brian's experience at Gen Con 2026, and what America's biggest Board Game convention is all about!
And, of course, Jay asks THE desert island question... because it wouldn't be an interview without one!
Settle in and join Jay and Brian for a chat about Legends of the Arena!
If you'd like more information on Legends or Toth Games, check out their website here!
This year's UK Games Expo felt bigger than ever, and we're back one final time to share our own experiences, highlights, and thoughts as we wrap up our 2026 UKGE coverage! 🎲✨
Were we able to see everything we wanted to?
Has Drew taken his obligatory Win £1000 annual photo?
Did Craig ACTUALLY have a good time?
All these questions, and plenty more, are answered in our 50th episode! 🎉
Speaking of episode 50, we also want to take a moment to say a huge THANK YOU! ❤️
To everyone who has listened, supported us and joined us on this journey so far, we genuinely can't thank you enough.
Your kind words, encouragement, and the incredible guests we've had the privilege of chatting with have made every episode worthwhile.
We've had an amazing time from start to finish (apart from the occasional mandatory awards ceremony... IYKYK! 😂), and we can't wait to see where the next chapter takes us.
Here's to the next 50! 🥂🎙️

Our Arcadia Tables UKGE Special ended up being SO packed with content that we had no choice but to split it into two parts!
If you haven’t already listened to Part One, we’d definitely recommend starting there first… otherwise you may be jumping into the middle of the conversation!
In this second episode, Jay is once again joined by Mark from Arcadia Tables to continue chatting all things Arcadia Village (Stand 4-553) and UK Games Expo in general!
Plus we speak to our final guests, the Minor Disaster Crew, about their game Trouble on the Tempus!
And yes… apologies once again for the slightly rougher audio quality on this episode! We promise the conversation is worth it 🎧
We’ve still got ONE FINAL UKGE preview episode dropping before the event kicks off, so keep your eyes peeled for that too 🔥

UKGE is ALMOST HERE, and to celebrate we've been working on a TRILOGY of episodes all about the UK’s grandest tabletop stage of them all! 🎲✨
Well… that trilogy has officially become a QUADRILOGY!
We recorded SO much great stuff for this episode that we had to split it into two parts!
In Part 1, Jay is joined by Mark from Arcadia Tables to discuss the Arcadia Village (name 100% confirmed! 👀), a collaborative space bringing together talented indie developers exhibiting their games on gorgeous gaming tables, located at stand 4-553!
Not only are we joined by Mark, but also by three fantastic developers who’ll be showcasing their games in the village during the expo!
Apologies in advance for the slightly rougher audio quality on this one, but we promise it’s still packed with great conversation, behind-the-scenes insight, and loads of excitement for UKGE!
Be sure to come back for PART 2, where we’ll be chatting with Minor Disaster Games about Trouble on the Tempus, along with some of our biggest things to look out for at the Expo 🔥

Ever fallen head over heels for a board game, only to discover it is impossible to find, or the shipping costs and import taxes are enough to make you cry?
That's exactly how Revelation Games began.
After facing that same problem themselves, Chris and Guy decided to take matters into their own hands and created a company dedicated to bringing amazing international games straight to UK players, making Essen feel a whole lot closer to home.
In this episode, we dive into Revelation Games’ lineup for UK Games Expo, including exciting new titles making their UKGE debut from publishers like Looping Games, Playte, Creardo, Wulfhorn, Dragon Dawn Productions and more.

It’s that time of year again when the board gaming community heads to the beautiful town of Harrogate for four fantastic days of tabletop gaming at AireCon 🎲.
It wouldn’t feel like AireCon for us at the Bucket List Board Gamers without our annual catch-up with co-founder Mark Cooke!
This year we chat about what attendees can expect from the convention and share some of our top game picks that are perfect for a long weekend of gaming.
We also dig into the details of the event itself: how the halls are laid out, what’s new for this year, what returning visitors will recognise, and the merchandise, food, and other treats you’ll find while you’re there.
If you’re heading to AireCon or simply curious about one of the UK’s most welcoming tabletop gaming festivals, this episode will get you ready for the weekend ahead.
Enjoy! 🎧🎲
