Subject: Urgent Request for Media Attention and Possible Investigation into the Case of Inmate Mandy Bauchman, Utah County Jail
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to respectfully request your attention and possible investigation into the case of Mandy Bachman, who is currently incarcerated in the Utah County Jail. There are growing concerns about alleged constitutional and human rights violations surrounding her case. The following information is based on reports from individuals close to Mandy and publicly available legal documents. I share these concerns in good faith, with the intent of raising awareness and encouraging accountability.
1. Sealed Warrant Arrest:
Mandy was reportedly arrested on August 22, 2024, under a sealed warrant. There are ongoing questions about whether the warrant was validly issued and whether standard judicial procedures were followed.
2. Denial of Bail:
It has been reported that Mandy was denied bail despite not being charged with a capital offense. If accurate, this may raise concerns under Article I, Section 8 of the Utah Constitution, which guarantees the right to bail in all but a few narrowly defined situations.
3. Medical Concerns and Alleged Neglect:
According to individuals close to the situation, Mandy has not received consistent access to her prescribed medications for chronic migraines, depression, and nausea. She reportedly suffers from Mitochondrial Myopathy, which causes intense nausea and seizure-like symptoms. It is alleged that jail staff have dismissed her symptoms and until recently, denied her IV fluids or hospital care. If substantiated, this may constitute deliberate indifference, violating her 8th and 14th Amendment rights.
4. Plea Withdrawal Issues:
Court records indicate that a motion to withdraw her plea was filed by a previous attorney in March 2025, yet the court has allegedly failed to rule on it. Under Utah Rule of Criminal Procedure 11(j) and 10th Circuit precedent, she may have had a right to withdraw her plea prior to sentencing.
5. Confusion About Conviction Status:
It has been communicated by her current public defender that Mandy is considered “convicted” and therefore not eligible for bail. However, sources familiar with her case claim that sentencing has not occurred, which raises legal questions about the accuracy of that assessment.
6. Prolonged Detention and Isolation:
Mandy has reportedly been incarcerated for nearly a year without bail or visitation. Her family states that she has had no in-person contact with loved ones, and that phone calls cost $0.23 per minute or more. Her husband has allegedly spent $4,376 on calls and commissary fees. These circumstances have raised concerns about possible violations of her right to a speedy trial and basic human dignity.
Those advocating for Mandy believe she may be facing retaliation due to her vocal stance against government corruption and sex trafficking in Utah. While these claims are serious and remain under public scrutiny, we believe the situation warrants greater transparency and independent investigation.
A prayer vigil for Mandy will be held on August 5, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the 4th District Courthouse, located at 137 N Freedom Blvd, Provo, UT 84601.
We respectfully ask for your assistance in examining these concerns and bringing public attention to her case. The goal is to ensure accountability and that her legal and medical rights are fully respected.
Sincerely,
Josie Jo
