Ralph Dunning is a serial entrepreneur who started Dunning Golf in the early 90’s from his basement. Ralph grew Dunning to become the #2 selling golf athletic apparel brand behind Nike. He took guidance and technology from the cycling industry and applied the same school of thought in incorporating technology into golf apparel. He bootstrapped the business and had no knowledge or pre-conceived notions about the golf industry. Dunning Golf was an 8 person team that beat out Goliath brands such as Under Armour, Polo and Adidas. He was reminded continuously that his product wouldn’t cut it in the golf industry, but he believed in the product and educated the consumer on the power of their brands technology. Dunning Golf started out as an authentic brand with a purpose, as the company grew the brand lost its way when trying to manage the explosive growth. Ralph was tasked with bringing the authenticity back to the brand and the product. Authenticity is about identifying with what your brand stands for and what are the brands guiding principles.
