"My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel"

The Word that I have today comes from Second Chronicles, chapter 6, verses 7 to 9 and it says: “My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the Lord, the God of Israel. But the Lord said to my father David, ‘You did well to have it in your heart to build a temple for my Name. Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, your own flesh and blood - he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.’”
”...they were made to build the temple of the Lord.”This Word takes place after Solomon establishes himself as king of Israel. Second Chronicles starts with Solomon gathering the best materials both near and afar, and the most skilled workers to help build and decorate the temple. Solomon's father, king David, also had a vast array of the finest materials set aside for the purpose of contributing to building the temple for the Lord. After the temple was complete, Solomon gathered the elders of Israel, the heads of the tribes, and chiefs of the Israeli families to bring the Ark of the Covenant into the temple. King Solomon and all the Israelites gathered around the Ark and began to sacrifice so many sheep and cattle they could not be counted. The Levites and 120 priests began to worship the Lord. This was so pleasing to the Lord, that He began to fill the temple with His presence. As Solomon began to pray, this word came forth as a part of that prayer.
This is so powerful! Solomon knew his entire life that he was made to build a temple for the Lord. His father not only instilled in his heart, but he also provided the materials consecrated to the Lord. His father had it in his heart, and he raised his son to have it in his heart as well. I want the same for my children. I want them to know that they were made to build the temple of the Lord. No, this will not be a physical temple, but a spiritual temple. I want them to understand that they are the temple.
”God… does not dwell in a building, but He does dwell in men!”In order to please the Lord, they must bring the best of their lives, just as Solomon brought the best material and the best animals to be sacrificed. This means that if they're spending time with the Lord, they bring Him the best of their time and not the leftovers. David supported and demonstrated what it looks like to build the temple of the Lord. As I read this Word, it says ‘build a temple for the Name of the Lord.’ God is mighty, He is holy, and He is great. He does not dwell in a building, but He does dwell in men! We bear the Name of Christ! We should be like Solomon, bringing the best of all that we are so that His Name would be glorified.
Lord, You are perfect in every way and You give good gifts to Your children. Thank You for giving us Your Word. Thank You for Your Holy Spirit. Lord, please instill in each of our hearts Your purpose for us to build a temple for Your Name. Lord, please teach us to demonstrate what it looks like to build a temple for everyone around us that Your Name would be glorified in us. Amen. God bless and have a wonderful week!
