Building AI Through Catholic Intellectual Inheritance

Listen Later

Season 2, Episode 18

Toward Echo presents the long-term vision behind the Echo project: preserving sustained human attention in a form that artificial intelligence can faithfully retrieve, compare, translate, and extend without replacing human judgment. This episode explores why the project is not about producing more papers or building a more powerful AI, but about creating a durable, relational index of human knowledge that preserves questions, reasoning, corrections, chronology, and authorship. Drawing from Catholic theology, St. Thomas Aquinas, Melvil Dewey, library science, and modern AI, the discussion argues that wisdom remains a human responsibility while AI serves as memory, retrieval, and translation. The goal is to leave future generations a richer intellectual inheritance—one where they receive not only answers, but the documented path by which truth was sought, tested, corrected, and faithfully handed on.
