Matt Eldridge is a seasoned entrepreneur, having experience in building and growing many companies in the past – but he’s also an avid golfer. His love for the game has motivated him to create an app for golfers that makes the game more enjoyable and advances the golf industry. In Matt’s own words, “I love golf and I love being an entrepreneur, so combining my passion for both was inevitable. I feel that my “failures” (my best lessons) and successes have helped me grow into the leader I needed to be for Foursum. Growing a company, helping grow the game of golf and learning from the great people I surround myself with is the ultimate dream (plus I get to “test”/ golf all the time). I call it LTD (living the dream) and I have the privilege to do it everyday.” In this episode of Crank It Up David T.S. Wood has a great chat with Matt about his journey as an entrepreneur, the path toward developing his Foursum golf app, and the way it’s changing the game of golf.

Golf as a relationship builder… it’s not just a game.

If you’ve never been on a golf course with a group of friends you may not understand this idea, but the camaraderie and friendship that happen and build on the golf course are very unique. Both David T.S. Wood (host of this episode of Crank It Up) and Matt Eldridge (creator of the Foursum golf app) are convinced that golf does more than give an opportunity for recreation – it actually builds relationships. Matt sees his golf app being a very important piece of that important relational component of golf by allowing golfers to stay connected with each other and how they are playing, even when they aren’t playing together. It’s a great idea and one that he’s working hard to integrate into his app in every developing ways. You can hear about his app, what it is capable of doing and how it can improve the connection you enjoy on the golf course, in this episode.

Surrounding yourself with people who fill in your gaps.

That’s a powerful business principle Matt Eldridge has discovered as he’s worked in various entrepreneurial enterprises. When he tries to go it alone, he finds himself hitting barriers that he can’t overcome. But adding people to the team who are skilled in areas where he is weak has made all the difference. Sure, you’ve got to be careful, making sure that you share a common vision and have a clearly stated objective and end goal but in the end, a good partnership can make all the difference. Be sure to listen to hear Matt’s thoughts.

The four stages of business development Matt Eldridge focuses on.

As a business owner or entrepreneur there’s a whole lot that you have to keep your eye on, from product conception and development to the actual implementation. But once you have that viable product, where do you go from there to develop your business? In his experience building businesses Matt Eldridge has discovered 4 sequential steps that he has to address in order to get his product up and running. The first is customer acquisition – finding the customers who need the solution you have. Next is customer retention – finding ways to make your product and the experience of using it so pleasant that your customers stick around, next is  virality – creating easy ways for satisfied customers to share the product or service, then comes the process of scaling – developing ways to build the business to a larger scale for more profit and more benefit to customers. Matt unpacks those ideas on this episode of Crank It Up, so be sure to listen.
