Job asks that question and, likie all of his questions, it's not answered in that Book. It is, however, answered in the New Testament. This episode concludes Bildad's first accusation against Job, the Sufferer. Unfortunately, church peopel are often guilty of similar behavior. I'm not surprised when unsaved people behave like this, but it's more than sad when beleivers do. Hopefully, this message will convict us and inspire us to respond to suffering with more compassion. Job's so-called "friend" Bildad takes his turn trying to "explain" Job's suffering, but he's more heartless than Eliphaz, who has just finished. We learn valuable lessons in how NOT to minister to sufferers from this passage, and possibly to repent from following certain church tradtions. Most of us begin well. We're full of energy and enthusiasm. But as time goes on, discouragement sets in. People turn on us and we experience rejection and neglect. Many even quit. All are tempted. On the eve of my spiritual birthday, I decided to do something completely different: no references to written resources, no script, very little editing. I just quickly "reflect" on my own spiritual odyssey. Litening to it was kind of frustrating; so many things left out and so many things I could have said better. Again and again, humanity repays God's mercy by sliding back into the sins He has previously jusdged us for. Genesis chpater 11 is no exception. Hopefully, this generation of God's people will learn from these errors and pains of past generations...while we still can. After the Flood, humanity was told to "fill the earth". In Babel, they tried to disobey that command. Just before returning to heavenm Jesus told His followers to spread the Gospel to "all nations".
