Nehemiah 4:14

And it says, “After I looked things over, I stood up and said to the nobles, the officials and the rest of the people, ‘Don't be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, who is great and awesome, and fight for your families, your sons and your daughters, your wives and your homes.’”
"God is faithful, and we know that there is victory in His Name." The person speaking in this verse is Nehemiah, he was speaking words of encouragement to the Jews. These people were rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. The Jews faced so much opposition while trying to rebuild the walls that Nehemiah came to speak these words to the people. Nehemiah placed men at the lowest points of the wall near their homes.
"When the Lord calls us to do something, it's never meant to take place in our own strength." I love this Word, and the amount of wisdom found in this one verse. These men were not only fighting, they were building - with an understanding that if their part of the wall is not secure, their families would not be secure. Nehemiah tells them to remember the Lord and fight! God is faithful, and we know that there is victory in His Name.
When the Lord calls us to do something, it's never meant to take place in our own strength. Our job is to move obediently, following the Lord's instructions. In this story, Sanballat was very angry that the wall was being rebuilt. He ridiculed the people and threatened to stop the work of the Lord.
"The wall must be built." As I look at my own life, I see the parallels. I see how important it is for my family to have a wall. This wall is not a physical wall, but a spiritual wall. In Proverbs 18:10 it says, “The Name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.” When I read this, I'm reminded of a game of baseball or tag. As long as you're on base or home, you are safe - so, you run with everything you have in order to be safe. We build a safe place or wall with the Lord. Every brick is the Lord. The mortar, or clay, is God's love holding it together. The Lord gives us a sword - His Word - to fight everything that does not align with the Lord's teaching. Just like Sanballat, it's the things in our lives looking to stop the work of the Lord.
This wall is not just a wall for my children, but the generations after them. It's a wall for our church and the families to come. The wall must be built. The foundation must be on a firm foundation - which is Christ Jesus. Just as with a physical wall, a spiritual wall may need repairs, and some places may need to be fortified - so we constantly inspect the wall to make sure it's secure.
Lord, thank You for Your goodness, Your love, and wisdom. Lord we ask that You would show us the places in our lives that are in desperate need of repair. Lord please help us to be diligent in going after those places so that our tower is strong in You. Lord, I pray that we would remember how great and awesome You are - and fight, keeping our eyes on You. God bless and have a wonderful week. I will speak to you again soon.
