Mississippi State took won the first game of the three-game series with Alabama on Thursday by a score of 4-2. With the win and a loss by Florida, the Bulldogs are in sole possession of 4th place in the SEC standings. State needs to win one more game than Florida to stay in that position, which would mean a first round bye in next week's SEC tournament.
