The fifth episode of Deliver U.S. from Dehumanization tells the story of five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos, a child whose blue bunny hat and Spider-Man backpack became a viral image after he and his father were detained by ICE in Minnesota. Witnesses allege Liam was used as bait to draw other individuals out of his home. However, the Department of Homeland Security disputes this, claiming they were only tending to Liam after being abandoned by his father.
But despite the conflict of narratives, this episode asks a deeper question: What happens to the children whose photos never go viral and why are kids being detained in the first place?
If you’ve been impacted by deportation, detention, or the constant fear of being seen as “other,” I want to hear from you. Your stories deserve space. Your voice deserves to be heard.
