Burst water main causes peak hour chaos in Fitzroy North

Listen Later

A burst 600-millimetre water main on St Georges Road in Fitzroy North has closed a 500-metre stretch of the major thoroughfare, causing significant disruption during peak hour. Four trams are stranded in the middle of the road, with services terminating at Alexandra Parade and passengers forced to walk. Greater Western Water crews have been working for over five hours to repair the burst pipe near Edinburgh Gardens, with sandbags placed in the tram tracks at the source of the problem.
