Steph sits Yan down to explore the age old question: do musicians use drugs & alcohol? Turns out the answer is yes, and at a rate so much greater than the civilian population that Steph thought it was a statistical error. Steph spills some about her wayward youth and elaborates on her equally wayward early sobriety - a true Renaissance man of alcoholism.
Also covered is Geordie I’m A Greep, I’m A Weirdo’s libellious fliers from Vancouver and the PASTE-exclusive statement from his alleged victim Laura. Keep an eye out for Tatiana Tenreyro on the pod soon…

This episode, Steph and Yan sit down and talk about their experiences of music scenes and bubbles throughout their time in NYC. We go way off script (cause there is none) and talk very, very openly. From Manhattan snobs, to punk Brooklynites, we delve into (and judge) how differently people treat, welcome, and support one another throughout local music communities. Most importantly though, we highlight our most heartwarming moments that still give us hope.
Have any questions about NYC cliques and bubbles? Or curious to learn how to get more involved in the scene? Let us know and we'll happily talk more.

In this absolutely-not-mini episode, Steph explains to Yan the strange ways the in-universe band in AMC’s The Vampire Lestat is situated within the modern music industry, then solicits Yan’s professional opinion on the (wide-ranging) quality of their songs. If you loved the show but have complicated feelings about the music or changes from the book - or just if you want some Theories and Critique - this one is for you!
I’m sorry Daniel Hart, we appreciate your labor. Please come talk to us. We have questions.

Do you have plans for this Sunday? Are you based in NYC? Well do we have the event for you! HeroFest is a new DIY music festival, happening Sunday, September 13th at Rubulad (Brooklyn), and we had the pleasure to talk to its founder and organizer – Hero Magnus!
Hero Magnus is a singer-songwriter living and performing in Brooklyn, NY. She grew up around the Washington, DC hardcore scene, working for legendary studio Inner Ear and opening for punk bands. As an undergraduate at Yale, she released her first EP Make Me a Man, which explores queer love and desire through adaptations of stories from ancient mythology. Hero recently released her debut album How Do You Leave a Warm Dark Place, and today is on to her next project – hosting a DIY festival to uplift local talent.
On this episode, Steph, Yan, and Hero talk about key values and inspirations behind HeroFest, why combining media (music and writing) was a crucial part in the creation of this event, how Hero's past experience came into play, and most importantly Steph and Hero bond over their hot yoga experiences (Yan refuses to even attempt a hot yoga class).
Will we see you at HeroFest this weekend?? Leave a comment, and come say hi!

Steph and Yan have the incredible Sara Feigin on the show!
Sara has longtime experience in the music industry and journalism. But most importantly, as she would tell you, Sara is a professional fangirl. She’s spent the last few years building a community in the New York rock scene through her podcast, newsletter, show recommendations, and biweekly free music meetups and networking events. Sara is a true legend of the New York scene and this week she was generous enough to chat with us about the rise and fall (and rise again) of rock music, her Epstein Files-related cease and desist, and the very specific feeling of being a hater/fangirl/non-cis man in the music scene.
