Business Insights - Preparing for the Unexpected

Listen Later

In this episode of Sweat, Grit & Hustle, Tracy talks about ways to prepare your business so that someone else can do the critical task in the event of you unexpectedly being unable to run your business. She also covers initial things to address to start the process of planning your business activities so that you can transition to working ON your business and not IN your business.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Do you have a will? If something happens to you then someone will be able to execute your will and make sure people can get on with what they need to.
  • Do you have a lasting power of attorney? This would allow someone else to legally manage your finances if you are incapacitated.
  • Have you looked into insurance for your limited company? Key man cover will allow someone to be paid to do the role you’re unable to do.
  • Do you have a fire log? This is a document that you create that gives instructions for someone else. For example, your bank accounts, mortgage details, who money is owed to and when. This can work both in a business sense and for your personal life.
  • Look at all the tasks you do and put them into brackets of how much you’d pay for someone else to do them per hour. £10 tasks, £100 tasks, and £1000 tasks. If you’re looking to exit or reduce the amount you do for your business, start at the bottom of the list and outsource them.

BEST MOMENTS

‘You don’t want to come out of hospital and see the bank is closing on your house’

‘Your basic repetitive admin tasks take time away from you’
