CEO Chronicles

Business is Business even if it's Nonprofit!

Listen Later

We have something really exciting in store today – our first ever guest! Ms. Tammy Buckner of Kansas City joins us today to talk about her company, WeCode KC, which has been putting on great programs for local children in the community since November 2019! She is not only a woman in the world of technology but also a woman of color in the world of technology, and she shares her fascinating story with us of how she got involved in it, having been fascinated by tech at a very young age getting into trouble for taking computers apart.

Growing up, Tammy didn't see many black women in technology, and she didn't really have anyone who helped her on her journey which is what prompted her to start her nonprofit – she wanted to fill that gap for the next generation. She discusses how WeCode KC got kickstarted, how the COVID-19 pandemic impacted it and how it resulted in a pivot, what longterm benefits the program has for its children, how Tammy has gone about hiring volunteers for the nonprofit and what the first couple of hired positions will be, how she has had to allocate funds running a nonprofit, and so much more!

We are so glad that Tammy was able to take the time to come on and give all of this helpful information about and her unique perspective on running a business. We really appreciate her time, and we hope that you enjoy listening to our interview with her! As always, we also appreciate you for tuning in and encourage you to reach out to us via the email address provided in the show notes if you have anything that you would like to share with us! We would really love to hear from you! Also be sure to reach out to WeCode KC if you'd like to donate money and/or volunteer! See you next episode!
