Well, Firstly, South Africa is one of the most unequal societies in the world, with the world’s largest Gini co-efficient. Secondly, business purpose is moving quickly from ‘making profits for shareholders’ to a ‘new social contract to address shared social and environmental problems’. Thirdly, an executive pay cut would show solidarity with employees who are affected more drastically by wage cuts.
