Jesus Turned water into wine!

When we look at the first acts of Jesus,

in Mark we find the story of the exorcism at Capernaum,

Matthew begins with the Sermon on the Mount

and in Luke it is the revelation of himself in the synagogue,

but here in John he begins with, what at first glance,

seems an almost insignificant occurrence

when compared with the other signs included in the Gospel of John,

such as the feeding of the 5000, walking on the water,

the healing of a man blind from his birth,

and the raising of Lazarus.

Why then would John chose to disclose that Jesus first sign was to create wine for a party?

What is the significance of this occasion?

What are we meant to learn here?
