Anything we have today has already been done through the work of Jesus Christ. Even though we were once sinful and apart from God, He still loved us enough to send His Son Jesus to take our place of judgement for sin. It was never up to us to "get it right", God already did that. It's up to us to believe. It is through our faith that we experience salvation and rightness with God. Not through our own abilities. We don't have such ability. We often however pay more attention to the effect than we do to the cause of our salvation. This leaves us wrought with feelings of failure and shame. We are called to place our faith in what Jesus did, not our ability to be perfect! Rightfully so, when we lean on the perfect work of Jesus, the Spirit works within us to bring about the life that Christ says is to be followed by everyone who loves Him. We cannot comprehend all that God's love means for us. He loves us at our worst, demonstrated through the giving of His Son Jesus, in response, we turn from sin, seeking to be Holy.
