Patrick Stewart: As a character I knew we had a strong basis. In the pilot episode Encounter At Farpoint in fact Gene created for me and I think for most of the principal characters the basic foundations that we were to go over the years. There was so much present in those and in that first to US script the rest it has been just pleasant fine tuning and happy development of these characters which is which is never ended.
