I read from clout to clown.

 

And yes, the ME "clowe", AF "clou", and the Latin "clavus" all mean "nail" and "girofle" means "clove".  The word that looks more like "clove" doesn't (or didn't) even mean "clove" so something interesting happened etymologically.
