This was a hard episode for me to reach out and discuss. I really don't discuss racism that is around in our lives and in our communities. But with the Black Lives Matter movement, I felt the need to discuss this with my dear friend Quita Jackson.
When I asked her to be on the podcast to discuss the BLM movement, Quita hesitated. She felt a lot of pressure. She felt pressure to come across with the perfect amount of support: not too strong and not too weak. So I asked her to focus the discussion of raising her 2 African American teenage sons and how we as parents can help support our fellow friends and neighbors in this movement. Her one request she tells her sons really surprised me during our call. It's a request that is not a commonly heard from non-black parents.
