The theft of overhead cables and railway equipment in South Africa has reached unprecedented levels with the impact being felt by critical industries such as the mining, automotive, steel and agriculture among others. Transnet which has an interface agreement with Prasa – (sharing of railway lines) has experienced the theft of cables and railway equipment such as rail tracks particularly in the Pretoria complex, one of the country’s largest rail interchange which services key rail corridors such as the Cape, Natal, Port Elizabeth and Coal lines.
