It’s emerged 2 Calgary malls owned by property giant Cadillac-Fairview have been testing a new system which uses facial recognition to capture a shoppers’ gender and age without them knowing, while they’re using the mall’s touch-screen directory.
CF says it doesn’t have to get consent, because it doesn’t record or store the images. The property giant refuses to reveal where else the technology is being used saying that is ‘proprietary’ information.
