Brilliant
I love this author, so am sorry if I get a little carried away. But, the Markby and Mitchell books are great, the story is an interesting one and part of the book you know what is coming. But the ending is always a big slap in the face, and for me I have ruled out the killer at the start. If you have never had an Ann Granger book, please try this series.
entertaining
This is a well written and absorbing good old english murder mystery. A tangle of hidden secrets come to the fore after the murder of Andrew Penhallow, secrets that have been hidden for many years from his family.
Superintendent Markby and his girlfriend Meredith are set the task of unravelling this sudden death and at the same time attempting to establish their own relationship on a more permanant footing. The characters were believable and the plot well devised.

This book continues the Markby/ Mitchell relationship in the pleasant easy stye as previous novels whilst a good no too complicated mystery goes on arround it. An ecellent listen for in car entertainment on long journeys.
Main female was very annoying
This story/mystery was somewhat spoilt by the main female character being so dislikable. She cant cook (everyone can cook, even children), cant cope with buying clothes, is argumentative, tells everyone what to do and cant stand being wrong. I felt she didnt add anything to the story. I guessed who done it, the first time the perpetrator was interviewed so it was just a matter of finding out how the police worked it out. I was not thrilled with this book and wont be purchasing any more from this author.
A greta story - rather spoilt by the narrator

I enjoy Ann Granger's books.. both the Mitchell & Marksby and the Campbell & Carter series.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The dreadful pseudo Scottish accent used for Meredith rather spoils the narration. Nowhere in the previous books is Meredith described as Scottish so why was this felt necessary?
