I sat down to open my Bible, didn't know where to start, and opened Instagram instead. Forty-five minutes later I'd watched six creators break down the same verse six different ways — and I still hadn't opened my Bible. I felt caught up. Informed. I could have told you what three different people think that verse means. I couldn't have told you what I think it means, because I never went and found out.
That's this episode. Not "get off your phone" — content pointing you back to the Word isn't the problem. The problem is when the pointing stops and the content becomes the destination, and you stop being able to tell the difference from the inside.
So I'm asking the question I had to ask myself with my phone in one hand and my Bible closed on the table: who's actually discipling you? Not who you'd name on a Sunday. Who's actually shaping what you believe, day to day, scroll to scroll.
We go through Romans 12:2 — why conformity is rarely loud, it's repetition — into Psalm 119:105, and I give you the two-question checkpoint I run on myself now before I let a take sit in me as conviction.

I've withheld generosity more than once and called it discernment.
After hearing Sean Ryan's episode on megachurch corruption, I started filtering every giving decision through suspicion before conviction ever got a vote. And it wasn't just institutions — I've done the same thing on a street corner, hesitating to give to someone because I didn't know what they'd do with it.
Two different fears, same operating question: what will they do with this, and does that determine whether I obey.
In this episode I'm breaking down the difference between stewardship and control, using the Good Samaritan to show that the call to give was never contingent on having certainty about the outcome — and naming where I've let someone else's potential bad choice override my own conviction.

You think you can be around anyone and stay unaffected. You can't.
In this episode I'm walking through three friendships I had to let cost me something — the ones built around drugs and alcohol, the ones where I took relationship advice from people who weren't living anything close to a Christian marriage, and the ones that ran on gossip. Same pattern, three different faces: I was being shaped by what I stayed close to, whether I noticed it or not.
We're going to scripture for this one — 1 Corinthians 15:33, Romans 12:2, 2 Corinthians 6:14-17, Proverbs 13:20, 1 Corinthians 5:9-11, and James 4:4 — to make the case for why proximity to compromise isn't neutral, even when it's passive. And I'll show you where the line is between that and what Jesus actually modeled with people who were still in process, so this doesn't turn into permission to write people off.
This isn't a guide to spotting a toxic friend. It's a question: what is closeness costing you that you haven't named yet.
Called out, or still finding out?

At 55, Brenda Joy sold a chocolate business she'd built over 21 years, moved her husband and four kids from Iowa to Florida, and walked straight into a season she didn't have a plan for. What followed wasn't the clean pivot her online bio makes it sound like — it was a second business that never felt aligned, a job she took for the money and got fired from within days, and a community she had to walk away from with no promise of what would replace it.
In this conversation, Brenda breaks down what it actually cost her to keep listening past the point where the outcome made sense — the friendships that didn't survive the move, the identity she had to let go of as a lifelong "task-oriented, striving" entrepreneur, and the discomfort of being told to just be still when stillness wasn't in her nature. We get into how she learned to tell the difference between fear talking and God directing, why comparison is the thing quietly disqualifying midlife women online before culture ever gets the chance to, and what it actually looks like to stay in your lane when everyone around you is building in someone else's.
This is a conversation about obedience without the finished version of the story — what it looks like while you're still walking it out, not after you've landed on the other side.

Witchcraft in a trailer built for six-year-olds. So I went and watched the whole thing.
My daughter wanted to watch the new Minions movie. I pulled up the trailer to check it first — and less than two minutes in, I felt it. Witchcraft, in a preview for a film rated for six-year-olds.
I could've stopped there. Instead, I sent my daughter to camp and went to see the whole movie myself — phone notes in hand — because I wasn't going to build a public conviction on a 90-second clip.
In this episode: what's actually in Minions & Monsters, the spellbook and summoning imagery I documented frame by frame, the alcohol-soaked "good life" the film keeps selling as happiness, and the scripture that names both of those patterns plainly — Deuteronomy 18:10-12, Isaiah 5:20, 1 John 2:15-16, and more.
This isn't a boycott call. It's a method — how to test a gut reaction instead of either dismissing it or running with it blind. Take it with you to whatever's next on your kid's watch list.
Scripture referenced: Deuteronomy 18:10-12 · 2 Corinthians 11:14 · John 8:44 · Isaiah 5:20 · 1 Peter 5:8 · Ephesians 6:12 · 1 John 2:15-16 · Philippians 4:8 · Psalm 101:3
So let's go ahead and dive right in.

I got blocked and removed from a neighborhood Facebook group — and before the hurt even landed, I'd already decided to build my own. It felt like initiative. It was avoidance. This episode is the conviction I didn't see coming: the difference between building community and building a bypass around the people who hurt you.
This week I'm getting specific and getting convicted in real time. I'm walking you through the neighborhood group situation that felt small on the surface and turned into a direct confrontation with the Good Samaritan — a story I've heard a hundred times, until it stopped letting me off the hook.
We're talking about the lawyer's real question in Luke 10, the actual cost of that Jericho road, and why the priest and Levite weren't just cold — they were protecting their own clean hands. And then we're talking about what it looked like for me to do the harder thing: go back, address it, reconcile, and shut down what I'd built to avoid it.
If you've ever built a new job, a new friend group, a new venture — quietly, as a way to avoid a conversation you didn't want to have — this one's for you.

I built a business show for years because I was good at it. Being good at something and being called to it are not the same thing — and it took me a long time to stop confusing the two.
This is the first episode of the Called + Convicted relaunch, and it's the one where I stop keeping the quiet part quiet. For years I sat on convictions I wasn't saying out loud — about the content I was consuming, the parenting patterns I inherited without questioning, the choices I was making that had nothing to do with strategy and everything to do with truth. I kept building a podcast about something else entirely while the Lord was working on something underneath it.
Here's what I've come to understand: I wasn't avoiding this direction because I doubted it. I was avoiding it because the other one felt like responsibility, and this one felt like passion — and somewhere along the way I decided responsibility was supposed to win. It doesn't. Not when it's built on obligation instead of conviction.
In this episode, I'm breaking down what biblical conviction actually is — the Holy Spirit's work of revealing truth and pointing us toward repentance, not the condemnation the enemy wants you to confuse it with. I'm walking through what it means to let scripture correct you instead of confirm what you already wanted to believe. And I'm laying out what this show is now:
Called + Convicted is where calling gets discovered and conviction gets defended — real conversations on discerning your purpose and the courage to stand on truth in the space between what the culture's selling and what God's asking of you.
Some weeks that's me, unpacking a conviction in real time. Some weeks it's someone else's story of discovering their calling and what it cost them. Some weeks we're confronting the cultural lies being sold as normal. I don't have the whole road mapped — but I know where this is headed, and I'd rather build it in the open with you than keep performing certainty behind a version of this show that was never mine to build.
So let's go ahead and dive right in.

If you’re a high-capacity woman building a business and you’re tired of creating content that doesn’t convert, this is your moment to stop hiding behind strategy and start leading with clarity.

Faith, Obedience, and Taking Responsibility as a Christian Woman in Business
Many Christian women entrepreneurs say they’re “trusting God” in business—but what they’re really doing is waiting, hiding, or avoiding the responsibility that obedience requires.

This conversation is especially for Christian women in business, faith-led entrepreneurs, and women building online businesses who love God—but feel stalled, inconsistent, or unclear on next steps.
Inside this episode, you’ll learn:
You’ll also hear a personal story of praying for growth and provision while avoiding visibility, outreach, and responsibility—and the moment of realization that nothing moved until ownership was taken.

Called & Convicted — where calling gets discovered and conviction gets defended.
I'm Whitney Kay — entrepreneur, content & sales strategist, and…
I'm not speaking from having arrived. I'm still walking this out daily, and this show is where I'm opening up space for the hard conversations along the way.
This isn't another podcast telling you to follow your dreams. It's real conversations with guests unpacking how they found what they were made for, me breaking down the biblical practices that separate God's conviction from the world's noise, and hard confrontations with the cultural lies muddying your judgment and calling it truth.
I'm not here to make you comfortable, and I'm not here pretending I have it all figured out. I'm here to help you discern your purpose and stand on truth in the space between what the culture's selling and what God's asking of you — because I'm asking those same questions of myself.
Let's go ahead and dive right in...
