  • Time With God Isn’t One-Size-Fits-All

What does spending time with God actually look like when life is full, your mind is distracted, and the season you’re in has changed you?

This week, Helen and Barbara's conversation moves from family life, job searching, and the importance of finding community into something that has become deeply important to them: learning how to intentionally spend time with God.

They talk about redefining “quiet time” and finding rhythms that help them genuinely connect with Him through Scripture, devotionals, worship, prayer, and even tools like AI that can help us understand the Bible more deeply.

They also get into the harder parts of walking with God: obedience when we don’t understand, bringing our real emotions to Him instead of trying to clean them up first, how grief can deepen our relationship with Him, and learning to trust God’s will even when it may look different than what we hoped for.

There isn’t one perfect formula for spending time with God. The goal isn’t to check a box or do it the “right” way. It’s to know Him, make space for Him, and keep showing up.

  • Who Let Us Be Adults

Apparently, being an adult does not mean you ever actually figure out how to be one. 😂

This week we’re talking about all the things we really thought we’d have figured out by now. Like how to properly clean our linens (yes, this is a real conversation), what to make for dinner every single night for the rest of our lives, finances, parenting, and all the other things we somehow thought would get easier with age.

Basically, we’re old enough to know better, still Googling basic life skills, and realizing maybe none of us actually have this figured out.

Of course, we take plenty of completely unnecessary but very on-brand rabbit trails along the way and wrap it up with where we saw God show up this week.

  • Perimenopause Is a Whole Different Kind of Chaos

This week, Helen and Barbara are having a really honest conversation about a season that can make you feel like you don’t even recognize yourself. The emotions are bigger, patience is shorter, overwhelm comes faster, and sometimes you know your reaction is irrational while also feeling completely unable to control it.

And the hardest part is, we don’t want to feel or act this way either.

And husbands, this one is for you too. Not because you’re doing something wrong, but because understanding what’s happening can make a huge difference. Sometimes what’s needed most is a little more grace, a little less guilt, and a reminder that they’re still loved when they’re not exactly acting like themselves.

There are definitely still a few laughs, but there’s also a lot of honesty about navigating a season that can feel really freaking hard.

Basically, hormones are hormoning, ADHD is ADHD-ing, the mental load is mental loading.

  • Unfiltered Chaos & 90's Nostalgia

Helen and Barbara are ALL over the place in this one… which honestly feels pretty on brand. 😂

They start down an Amazon rabbit hole, sharing the impulse purchases they’ve been influenced into buying and the completely random things sitting on their wish lists.

From there, the conversation goes basically everywhere. Homecoming dress shopping, football season, parenting kids who are growing up way too fast, unexpected news from a doctor’s appointment, and a trip straight back to the 90s with all the toys, trends, and memories they completely forgot about.

There is no staying on topic in this episode. One conversation turns into another, which turns into another, which somehow turns into another.

Basically… if you’ve ever wondered what it sounds like inside Helen and Barbara’s brains, this might be it. 😂

  • Season 2 Coming in Hot

They're back, and a LOT has happened.

In this episode, Helen and Barbara are catching up on life since the beginning of summer, from family vacation to the two days they intentionally disappeared, unplugged, and gave themselves permission to do absolutely nothing they didn’t want to do.

But somewhere between the laughs and vacation stories, things get a little deeper. Barbara shares some pretty big news about a major transition in her life, and they talk about what it looks like to trust God when He’s leading you into something new, even when that new thing comes with a lot of emotions.

They also get into mental health, ministry, family, leadership, rest, and the tension of caring deeply about what God has called you to while also realizing you can’t keep pouring from an empty cup.

It’s a little bit of summer recap, a little bit of life update, and a whole lot of honest conversation about change, growth, faith, and learning to recognize God in the middle of all of it.

Basically... life has been life-ing. Let’s catch up.

  • For the Moms in the Thick of It

This week on Called to Chaos, Helen and Barbara have an honest conversation for the new moms, postpartum moms, and moms in the thick of raising littles.

They talk openly about the challenges that can come with early motherhood including anxiety, overstimulation, exhaustion, mom guilt, mental health, antidepressants and medication, and the pressure moms often feel to do everything “right.” They also dive into comparison, the unrealistic expectations placed on moms, and the reminder that every child develops differently and every mom is doing better than she thinks.

If you’re deep in diapers, tantrums, sleepless nights, survival mode, or just feeling overwhelmed by the weight of motherhood, this episode is for you.

You are not alone, and you are not failing.

  • Random Thoughts & Rabbit Trails

This week Helen and Barbara decided to keep things a little lighter… so naturally that led to random "hot takes" that don't actually feel like hot takes. 😜 A couple random “this or that” debates, some unnecessary opinions, and plenty of rabbit trails along the way.

From parenting and friendship thoughts, to shopping habits and anxiety quirks. Plus all the completely random places their brains tend to go in between… this episode really feels like you’re just hanging out with friends.

  • Helen's Story of Marriage, Betrayal, Divorce… & Redemption

    This week’s episode is a little different…

Barbara sits down with Helen to talk through the full story of her and Gary’s relationship — how they met, the early years of marriage, becoming parents young, betrayal on both sides, divorce, heartbreak, shame, and ultimately… reconciliation.

This isn’t a polished “perfect marriage” story. It’s honest, messy, painful, redeeming, and full of the ways God can restore what feels completely broken when both people are willing to put Christ back at the center.

We truly believe the enemy did not want this episode out. Between recording issues, editing problems, audio glitches, and video inconsistencies, this episode fought us every step of the way… but we kept pushing through because we know someone needs to hear it.

So if you notice a few audio or video inconsistencies along the way, just know: this conversation was too important not to share.

Whether you’re married, divorced, reconciling, hurting, or wondering if redemption is even possible for your story — this episode is for you.

  • Ministry, Motherhood, & The Myth of Balance

This week, Helen and Barbara recap celebrating Barbara’s birthday with a visit to The Worthy Co. and dinner afterward, which leads into an important conversation about trafficking awareness and the impact organizations like this are making.

Then the conversation shifts into the very real struggle of trying to balance ministry, leadership, marriage, motherhood, family life, and personal health all at the same time. They talk honestly about the pressure women feel to “do it all,” the guilt that comes with constantly feeling pulled in multiple directions, and the realization that maybe perfect balance isn’t actually possible in every season.

And to lighten things up a little, they end by discussing what their actual dream Mother’s Day would look like if Sundays, responsibilities, and ministry schedules weren’t part of the equation.

It’s honest, relatable, funny in the real-life kind of way, and a conversation that will make every overwhelmed mom feel a little less alone

  • Life Was Life-ing This Week

This week Helen and Barbara talk about everything from birthday tattoos and weekly chaos, to family overload and what happens when life keeps adding “just one more thing” to your plate. 🫣

Between kids with allergy attacks, broken Chromebooks, promposals, and trying not to completely crash out while everyone needs something at the exact same time… this episode is basically a live look into their mental tabs being open everywhere.

It's full of the chaos you've surely come to expect at this point. 🤣
