Why does the Catholic Church place so much emphasis on extra-biblical teachings, many of which directly contradict the scripture? I know that there are passages that talk about "the brothers of Jesus". Those passages seem to talk like they are Jesus' REAL brothers. Can you discuss this in light of Catholics' view of Mary's perpetual virginity? I've heard the argument that maybe they were adopted siblings or Children of Joseph's from a previous marriage. Would a practice like that be common for Jews in those days?, and more on today's Called to Communion with Dr. David Anders!
