Dr Tom Davidoff has always been outspoken on housing density and taxation, and now he’s raised the ire of homeowners who will be hit with the tax on properties worth over $3M. Years ago, Davidoff and a group of academics proposed the BC Housing Affordability Fund, calling for a 1.5% property surcharge and giving the revenue to Canadian tax filers.

The truth of the matter is, this is a assumed wealth tax. Meaning, if you have a high value house, it doesn't matter how you came about it, or even if you're wealthy at all.
