Several dozen people rallied last night before the meeting of the Albany County legislature calling for the creation of an Independent Corrections Review Board to deal with the conditions at the Albany County Jail. The protestors cited a recent video of an inmate, Marquis Norwood, being beaten by multiple correction officers and allege that restrictions on solitary confinement are often abused. They says that such conditions have existed for years, despite the positive public reputation of Sheriff Apple. We hear from TeAne Taylor of the Release Aging People in Prison Campaign; Natisha, the fiancée of one of the inmates allegedly abused; Jamaica Miles of All of US; Roni Minter, founder of Freedom Unshackled; and Reverend Jim Ketchum of the NYS Council of Churches.
