Using smartphones and tablets to defuse kid’s emotions can prevent them from developing self-control. University of Michigan pediatricians studied 422 parent-preschool child pairs at baseline and over 6 months and found that those using electronic devices to pacify their emotions were most likely to lack age-appropriate executive functioning and to demonstrate excessive emotional reactivity. Bottom line: help your young children to directly address and manage situations that trigger their excessive emotions rather than distracting them with electronic sedation.
