Episode 303 of 7th Heaven deals with a very serious and heavy issue when it is revealed that Lucy's latest "best friend" self-harms. 7th Heaven uses its familiar formula of introducing a tertiary character to address the issue and, then, promptly abandons the character at the end of the episode.
