Cameron Reid – Speaking from a Quiet Place in the Woods
This week is the tenth episode, so I thought it would be fun to do a throw back to the very first interview I conducted for this show. Cameron Reid is a really good old friend, and since he and his wife moved to a small town called Black Creek, I don’t see him too much. He is a teacher, a sort of jack-of-all-trades, and a natural born philosopher.
We recorded this episode way back in February, so I need to put a couple things in context – We recorded this together, in person, at a time when that was still perfectly normal and COVID-19 wasn’t really on the cultural radar yet.
When Cam briefly mentions protests, he is not referring to the current protests around police brutality and Black Lives Matter, but to the Pipeline protests that were happening all across Canada back at the time of recording.
And a quick note to say we are talking very quietly during this episode, because Cam’s one-year-old son was napping in the next room over. It gives the interview sort of a close and intimate feel, which I like, but it might sound funny if you didn’t know the context. This episode is really more of a conversation than a story, and I’ll leave it up to you to decide whether or not it’s even all that amazing. Cam is definitely an amazing guy though, and I think that comes across in the interview.
