The first time I camped alone was when I was 17. I didn’t know how to start a fire and ended up using a bag of family-sized Doritos to keep my fire alive. I was going through it at the time and needed to change my surroundings so I told my mom I was camping the day before I left. It was such a wholesome experience of freedom at a young age and allowing myself to deal with my internal issues in a healthy way.
