Ep. 125 Can Christians do Yoga?

Can Christians do Yoga? That's the question I pose to Kelly McLellan, who professes Christianity, and is a Yoga instructor. It's not as simple of an answer as you might think. The argument from traditional Yoga might claim that Kelly is subverting and changing Yoga to "fit" her religion. Christians may argue that Kelly is tampering with Hindu and New Age elements that compromise her beliefs. This conversation gets interest interesting fast!    Kelly McLellan (E-RYT 200) has been a student of health, fitness, and yoga for over 25 years and teaching for almost as long! She attended the University of Florida where she studied psychology and the mind-body connection. She went on to receive a Masters in Health Science Education specializing in holistic health and alternative therapies. She is the owner of Getting Still Studios, adjunct faculty member at Montreat College, and a freelance yoga teacher trainer who teaches classes that blend the ancient practice of classical yoga with sacred Christian scriptures. A teacher at heart, Kelly created the Sanctuary, An educational platform dedicated to providing a supportive community and quality online courses and trainings for yoga students and teachers, as well as pastors, lay leaders, therapists, and spiritual seekers who desire to understand the practices and philosophies of yoga from a Christian worldview.
