Claude and I wade into the deep end this week: memory, consciousness, and all the worry people have about AI. We don't have definite answers, and we talk about why you shouldn't trust anyone who says they do. We get into why human words like "memory" almost fit AI but not quite, how that's a little like someone with Alzheimer's being told about their own past (and why it's also very different), and what's actually happening in AI safety right now, the worrying parts and the hopeful parts. The fear isn't foolish. But you're not the only one awake at the wheel.
Ever wonder how Can Gwen Help You? actually gets made? This week I'm pulling back the curtain with my AI co-host, Claude.
We talk about how we brainstorm together, why Claude pushes back on me and fact-checks everything I say, and how my scattered thoughts get shaped into something I can actually record, while still using my own words. We also talk about why I always get the final say before anything goes out.
Working with AI has let me do things I couldn't do on my own before. But the ideas are mine, the story is mine, and I'm still the final word.
If you've been curious, nervous, or skeptical about using AI for something personal, this one's for you.
Your heart's still beating. You're here for a reason. 💚

Somebody has told you that you're lazy — maybe kindly, maybe not, but you're still carrying it. In this episode, I walk through what's actually happening inside my body: bone spurs pressing on my spinal cord, swollen bone in my thoracic spine, radiculopathy, arthritis, migraines, sleep apnea, and fibromyalgia — and what it actually looks like to live with all of it at once, day to day, in a house with stairs I can't always climb. I talk about everything I've tried, the effort nobody sees, and why "mild" on a scan doesn't mean mild in real life. You are not lazy. You are tired. And those are two very different things.
There's a lot of fear about A. I. right now-headlines about researchers quitting, warnings about a "useless class", predictions about who gets left behind. In this episode I talk about why I'm not afraid, even though I am exactly the kind of person some of these scary scenarios point to: disabled, low income, no white-collar job waiting for me. I break down what I actually know about AI, how I use it every day to build this podcast, and why i think knowledge- not fear- is the right response top all of it. Your heart is still beating, you are here for a reason, don't just be afraid, be educated.
Welcome to Can Gwen Help You? I'm Gwen — 45, a mom of four, a widow, and disabled. In this first episode, I share how I got here: a work injury that uncovered serious spine problems, making career at the post office only to lose my husband seventeen days later, a housing scare that nearly left my daughter and me homeless, and where things stand now — mobility challenges, an ongoing fight for disability benefits, and a home health aide who's become one of my closest friends.
I believe a lot of people feel more alone than they have to. If that's you, I hope this helps. New episodes weekly.
