Yes, you can attend the Certified Scrum Professional Scrum Master course without attending the Advanced Certified Scrum Master course first but you won't be able to be certified as a #CSP-SM.
Why? Because the #ScrumAlliance want to see progression in your field from Certified #ScrumMaster through each evolution of your career progression.
The courses are structured for you to attend approximately one year apart from one another to give you time to implement what you have learned and build on that foundation knowledge and skillset with expertise in your field.
In order to benefit from the more advanced #scrum courses, you need the context of a working environment to truly embed the necessary skills and learning. You need to have practiced the subject material and be familiar with some of the more frequent challenges that are associated with product development and working in an #agile environment.
Each of the Scrum Alliance's courses are designed to meet you at a specific stage in your journey as a #scrummaster and help you overcome the challenges you experience at that specific stage of your journey.
If you have been fortunate enough to be mentored by an #agilecoach within a working environment, you will have a lot of great insights and stories to share within the courses you attend but you will also have a great set of questions for your Certified Scrum Trainer that will give you the insights and assistance you need to progress.
So, ideally, you would attend the #CSM course, practice for a year in your field, and then attend the #A-CSM course before practicing for another year in your field so that by the time you arrive for the Certified Scrum Professional Scrum Master course, you are fully prepared for the course and the subject material you will encounter on the course.
In this short video, John McFadyen explains why you need to do the Advanced Certified Scrum Master course before attending the Certified Scrum Professional course.
