In Luke 1:5-38 we read two messages sent from God through the angel Gabriel. He spoke to Zechariah and Mary before the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus Christ foretelling of what was to come and the what they were to do. While these messages were hard to believe possible, being from God and delivered to two devout servants of God, they were accepted as true. Do you wonder how you would have received such a message? Sometimes our vision of God is limited by our circumstances. God is active and involved in humanity and scripture is true. A virgin birth is important and it matters philosophically, theologically, and historically. Jesus is divine, he is human, and he is sinless. Only a virgin birth conceived by the Holy Spirit would be acceptable. God had to perform a miracle for Jesus’s birth. All of this has implications for us. As Christ followers we must acknowledge God’s right to direct our lives with His glory because God uses our lives for His glory. Mary’s words, “Be it unto me according to thy word” should echo in our hearts daily. God knew you before you knew you. God has plans for you, too. Does He have your attention?
