Even an introductory look into the manuscript background of the New Testament gives a convincing picture of the reliability of the New Testament's transmission over a span of almost two millennia. Not only does the New Testament stand above the crowd of other ancient manuscripts in terms of manuscript amount, but the New Testament also has copies of manuscripts that are very close in time to the original composition. Virtually unchanged (99.5% accuracy rate) over the centuries, the New Testament can be deemed reliable and accurate.

How do we know it was copied correctly.

These books were written by others about them 

Pliny - 700 

Josephus - 800

Plato - 1200

Aristotle - 1400

Sophocles - 1400

Heredotus - 1500

The NT somewhere between 10 and a 100 years.

We have more and earlier manuscripts about Jesus Christ (the NT) than ANYONE else in the ancient world, including Alexander the Great or Julius Caesar. 

How many manuscripts do we have from the original.

Plato - 7 manuscripts

NT - over 24,000  

If you took all the manuscripts of the average classical writer it would be about 4 feet high.

If you took all the manuscripts of the NT it would stack over a mile high

*But people will still disbelieve - why? Because Jesus made some crazy claims… and if he was right, then it demands a response and action on our part… we are stuck with an eternal responsibility. 

The greatest well known atheist who wrote a book called Bart Erhman, misquoting Jesus, He said there are more variations in our manuscripts than there are words in the new testament.

*We would expect this because we have the most manuscripts. But beyond that the “errors” are non consequential.

Does Mark start out with “Jesus the son of God” or not”

Is it in the original text or not… who knows. But here is the point…

It is not contrary to the theme of Mark, the Gospels, the NT and the whole bible!
