The Canary Islands is a collection of islands and an autonomous community of Spain in the North Atlantic Ocean. It’s located 70 miles off the west coast of Morocco making it the most tropical wine region in Europe. This week we learn a little more about this wine region and talk about some unique wines from the Islands.   Wine Recommendations Viñátigo Gual 2013 - priced around $30. White wine from 100% Gual grape or also know as Malvasia Fina Deep golden color wine with strong aromas of wet rock, tropical fruits like honeydew melon and pineapple with hint of spice It’s dry with medium acidity and body and flavors similar to aromas - pineapple, melon with a little salinity that comes from the grapes being grown close to the coast. Very tropical, ripe wine but the acid is still there, it’s not a flabby wine. Food Pairings: Fish served in sauces and white meats. You can purchase this wine here    Envínate Táganan Tinto 2016 - Priced around $32. This red wine has a nose of cherries, raspberries and cranberries, wet rock and tar It’s dry with medium acidity and tannins and medium minus body and flavors of red fruits, lavender and salt People who like chanti will probably like this wine Food pairings: roasted meats, spicy foods, wild game You can find information on where to purchase this wine here    Sources Wine Searcher  Vinepair  Wikipedia Baccos Wine and Cheese  Wine Folly
